Origanum majorana
This fragrant annual herb is related to oregano but has a sweeter, milder flavor. Bushy plants produce small round, velvety, aromatic green leaves with golden splashes at the tips. In summer pink flowers form and bring pollinators to the garden. For best flavor, harvest leaves in the morning when the oils are strongest. Use fresh or dry, in meat or tomato-based dishes, pasta or to flavor oil and vinegar. Plant in garden borders or use as a ground cover in rich well drained soil. Hardy zones 6-11.
