Thymus serpyllum
Small, fuzzy olive-green leaves are set close together on the stems of this low growing, mat forming plant. One of the earliest blooming thymes, in early spring this delicate looking plant is covered with a profusion of mini salmon pink flowers. While it is a member of the mint family it is typically grown as an aromatic groundcover. It releases fragrance when leaves are stepped on or crushed making it an excellent choice for small space between stones and pavers along paths. It is also attractive at the edge of gardens or spilling over the edges of containers. Tolerant of dry conditions it grows more quickly with moist conditions. Hardy to Zone 4-9.
