Named “Candy” because of its sugary sweetness this variety has a mild flavor and high sugar content. It’s great in both raw and cooked dishes, everything from salads to sandwiches to grilled foods. These round, flattened globe shaped, 4-6” in diameter onions have thin papery skins and because of their low acid content they cause fewer tears. In recipes calling for caramelized onions be aware that because of the high sugar content this onion will caramelize more quickly.
Smaller in size than most sweet onions, Candy Onion makes up for its size with its versatility and ease of growing. Storage potential is up to 3 months if properly cured and stored in a cool dry area.
